9-3-2012 – Orion “Doc” Dix Victory Medal Ceremony

ORANGE, Calif. (Sep. 3, 2012) Orion “Doc” Dix, a World War II veteran, is awarded the World War II Victory medal during a ceremony at his home in the company of his wife Dorothy and fellow veterans. Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez, was instrumental in obtaining the award which Dix had not received since his discharge in 1945 and is ill with leukemia. Dix was drafted into the U.S. Army and served from 1943 to 1945 as a medical technician assigned to the 15th Hospital Train, treating wounded in the European Theater. Dix, recalled that he requested assignment to the medical unit and was expecting to be a field medic, “but you go where the Army wants you to go,” Dix said. Dix explains that he lost more than two thirds of his high school class during the war in the South Pacific. Members from several veteran organizations including, the Wounded Warrior Ministries, Vietnam Veterans of America, Military Order of the Purple Heart, American G.I.
